5 Active Wear Pieces to Work in to Your Wardrobe + How to Style Them

“It’s not a fashion show!”

Who else has been told that a million times throughout their life? Sometimes you just want to dress up and sometimes you didn’t even try to dress up but you’re still accused of it. Enter your inner Gretchen Wieners, “I’m sorry people are so jealous of me.” No but seriously, I tell my friends all the time, it’s all about smart shopping. If you only buy clothes that you can’t wait to wear, or that flatter you completely then you’ll always “look cute” and that goes for casual, athletic pieces too. It’s all about layering.

I love finding athletic clothing that will do double duty. Ones that I will run or workout in but still cute enough to not feel completely embarrassed if caught out wearing it on an obvious “non workout” run. Some pieces are just easier than others to work into everyday outfits and today I wanted to share my favorite items to sneak into casual looks.

  • Hoodies & Sweaters– These are the gateway item because we all have some type of athletic sweatshirt in our closet. It’s so easy to layer these over a tee shirt dress or like I did, under a chic leather jacket. I prefer cowl neck styles like the one I’m wearing.
  • Baseball Caps– If you can pull off a baseball cap more power to you! I’m not one of those girls that looks particularly great in one but my two of my close friends rock them on the regular and look chic as hell. If you don’t want to wear a true athletic cap there are fashionable options now too, like velvet or suede.
  • Tennis Shoes– Hello, too easy. People have been rocking tennis shoes for years but thanks to the runway’s it’s now totally acceptable to wear them with just about anything! I love a clean white style (pictured above) to get the most use out of.
  • Tennis Skirt– I’ve been obsessed with tennis skirts since I was a child. Throw one on with a bodysuit for an athleisure look that will truly leave people guessing.
  • Leggings– I’m sure you’re a pro at working leggings into a look but try using some with sheer paneling for an added kick to your look.
