Fixin to Thrill: A blog for fashion lovers, duh

With the weather being what it was these past couple days in Austin, cold and rainy, I had more time than usual to online shop and let me tell you ladies, there are some deals going on right now! Tons of closeout sales on winter staples. Shopping at the end of season is a great way to save money while building your wardrobe with higher end pieces that will last. I’ve found that the best way for me to shop at the end of a season is to keep in mind a few key points:

  • Try to find classic pieces that will never go out of style. Avoid overly trendy pieces because odds are there will be a brand new fad next season.
  • If a statement piece is one you’re looking for then now is a great time to pick up those items you’ll only seldom wear. I don’t completely stick to a PPW (Price Per Wear) mindset but I do take into account whether an item will be worth it’s weight in wears let me tell you.
  • Check out the accessories, sales are a great time to stock up on essentials that rarely change in style or to buy that flannel floppy eared beanie from Zara that was $50 in November and was sooo cute but you knew realistically you’d never really wear it because it would ruin your hair but now it’s only $19 so nbd, I mean, just saying.
  • Try on “maybes” and clothing that may fit a little too large. If you love the pattern and the fabric alterations can be made and when you buy that dress on sale for a quarter of the price shelling out a few dollars to get it taken in doesn’t seem like too big of a hassle does it? This is seriously the main thing I tell my friends when they ask me how/where I’m finding things that they “can never find anything” you have to look, you have to step out of your element sometimes and try on things you wouldn’t typically. Some of my favorite dresses started as mumus, no lie.
  • Most importantly, if you don’t love it, don’t buy it. Just because something is 70% off doesn’t mean it’s a “good buy” especially if it’s an item that you have to lose weight or make up hypothetical reasons as to why you’d maaaybe wear it…you won’t ok, you won’t. (Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself)

Here are some of the great deals I came across on classic pieces:
